How to Keep Calm and Carry On Flying this Summer
We all have seen the news and heard stories from friends and family related to airport and travel chaos this summer. By now we all know someone whose baggage never arrived or, worse yet, their connection got canceled with only rebooking option available two days later (and who wants to spend two days at an airport hotel?).
But no need to stress – we at CEOFlights have prepared a list of tips to ease your anxiety and make sure you get to your destination as smoothly as practically possible (we know, it is a tall order this summer!).
Travel with carry-on only
This should come as a no-brainer – almost all airports have encountered some level of difficulty when it comes to baggage handling. This is particularly true if you are traveling to Europe or are connecting via a European airport – last-minute flight alterations and delays greatly increase the likelihood that your belongings will arrive late (or not at all).
Traveling light will also save you time when you get to your destination – as soon as you get your documents checked, you will be able to enjoy what your destination has to offer without having to look at the baggage carousel anxiously and hope that the next bag is really yours (and it almost never is – just be patient and keep waiting!).
Fly direct (if you can) and avoid connecting at congested airports
This again should be pretty self-explanatory – any connection you make increases the chances that you may experience hiccups along the way. It is prudent to spend a bit more money this summer just to get a direct flight – it is really worth it!
Of course, sometimes there are no direct flights to your destination or the costs are just too much to handle. In those circumstances, always check the latest news and real-time updates from the airline before booking to avoid airports experiencing the most difficulty handling the passenger flow.
It is also worth considering a departure airport that is further away but is less crowded and perhaps has better flight options. The longer drive or train ride may be time well spent.
Use an experienced agent for all your travel needs
This one may need a bit more of an explanation. When your journey runs into trouble, your first line of contact is the airline customer service – however, rebooking is notoriously difficult this summer and even the most polite and patient travelers are struggling to get a hold of someone on the phone or need to wait in line often for hours at the airport just to be told that there are no available seats on any flight for the next two days.
If you book your flight with a travel agent, they are here for you during your entire journey. At CEOFlights, our job is not done until your entire trip is over! Our Personal Travel Managers will support you throughout the whole journey – whenever and wherever you may be in the world. We are always a phone call or an email away, should your travel plans change. You can check out here one of our previous blogs discussing a few other reasons why book your flight with a travel agent.
Consider flying business class (yes, you heard that right!)
Indeed, even if you haven’t flown business class before, this summer may just be the time to give it a shot! The benefits range from a much more relaxing check-in experience to the use of the executive lounge – this all will undoubtedly help you escape from the airport chaos. A longer list of perks of flying business class is discussed in one of our previous blog entries!
The additional services and luxuries that come with a seat in the first or business class cabin can make the journey much smoother – even if your flight gets canceled or delayed, you will always be given a priority to the next available flight and a dedicated customer service team will take good care of you along the way!
